Know the History of Gyanvapi for the last three decades

Reportedly the legal battle between the temple and the mosque in the Gyanvapi complex has been going on for the last three decades. The temple side claims that about 2050 years ago, king Vikramaditya had built a temple of Lord Vishveshwar at the site of Gyanvapi. The self-proclaimed Jyotirlinga of lord shiva is present in india even before the reign of Muslim rulers. He is popular by the name of Lord Vishweshwar. According to the Hindu side, this Jyotirlinga is considered to be the most sacred among the 12 Jyotirlingas present across the country.


Meanwhile the book Maasir-e-Alamgiri written by Saqi Mustad Khan tells about the reign of the sixth Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. On the basis of this book, the temple side claims that during the reign of aurangzeb, the temple of Lord Vishweshwar was demolished and Gyanvapi mosque was constructed at the same place.


It is written in the book of Saki Mustad Khan that on 18 april 1669, Emperor aurangzeb receives wrong information. They are told that some Brahmins in Thatta, Multan and Banaras teach satanic knowledge to Muslims. After this, aurangzeb ordered the demolition of all such schools and temples. aurangzeb also completely banned idol worship. On the orders of aurangzeb, the royal officials destroyed the temple of Adi Vishweshwar present in the Gyanvapi complex.
