The pollution Control Board has requested the public to celebrate smoke-free bogi without emitting thick smoke. The pollution Control Board has issued a statement in this regard, "Before pongal festival, our forefathers used to celebrate the festival of Bogi on the basis of passing away of the old and bringing in the new." Accordingly, old products made from natural materials have been burnt again. This process has resulted in no air pollution and no environmental damage. But nowadays burning of old materials such as plastic, synthetic fiber fabrics, rubber products, old tire and tube paper, chemically mixed products causes air pollution and this thick smoke causes delay in arrival and departure of flights. In the city of chennai, due to the thick smoke caused by the burning of the goods on Bogi, the smoke zone is created and causes a lot of inconvenience to the motorists and also causes accidents. These dense toxic gases also cause eye irritation to the public. In this regard, the tamil Nadu pollution Control Board has been conducting an awareness campaign for the past 19 years to create awareness among the public before the pongal festival. As a result, the burning of smog-causing materials has decreased in recent years.
This year too, the public should celebrate a smoke-free boogie. During Bogi festival, pollution Control Board in chennai has organized 24-hour monitoring of air quality at 15 places on the day before Bogi festival and on Bogi day. Its details will be published on the website.
