Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav has released a new update on ticket fare concessions for indian Railways Senior Citizens.

Here's a big update for senior citizens who have been demanding concessions on train fares for a long time. Will indian Railways restore pre-Covid fare concession to them? Union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on friday that every passenger will get 55 percent concession on train travel.

He said this in response to demands for reinstatement of pre-Covid payment concessions for senior citizens and journalists. Vaishnav said that "Indian Railways is already offering 55 per cent concession on train fare to every train passenger," without giving a direct answer to media queries on the restoration of concessions.

Vaishnav said this while in ahmedabad to review the progress of the ongoing bullet train project. Before the Covid-19 lockdown imposed in march 2020, the railways had offered 50 per cent concession on train fares to senior citizens and government-accredited journalists. Railway operations were completely shut down during the lockdown.

But when it fully resumed in june 2022, the railway ministry did not restore these concessions, and since then the issue has been raised on various platforms, including both houses of Parliament. Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview with Financial Express, the Railways minister said that indian Railways plans to increase its passenger capacity to 1000 crore by 2030.

Various measures and initiatives are being taken to improve the governance of Railways. To a question about problems faced by passengers in confirming train tickets from irctc, the minister said that irctc is continuously working to improve the ticket booking facility.

He said that in a technology recently implemented by the Railways, the sections they have implemented have given a 24 per cent increase in the number of reserved seats or confirmed seats. Talking about vacant seat allocation, the minister said station-wise reservation allocation and artificial intelligence based algorithms decide seat allocation based on travel details of passengers.
