Hundreds of thousands of people died worldwide due to the pandemic that swept the world. In that way, last month on october 12, 2023, the death of a 13-month-old boy due to typhoid in singapore caused a great tragedy. In this case, the child's death has become the first death of people under 12 years of age in singapore in the year 2023. According to reports in the country's media, the child tested positive for Covid-19 on october 10, 2023 and was admitted to the hospital on the same day.

The Ministry of health (MOH) cited that the 13-month-old boy had "not been vaccinated against Covid-19" and had "clinically significant physical impairment" since birth before the infection. The MOH added that the cause of his death was severe covid-19 infection and he had a pre-existing medical condition. The MOH highlighted that while the risk of Covid-19 in children is lower than in adults, there can be "severe consequences", especially if the child is unvaccinated and has underlying conditions. All persons six months of age and older are therefore encouraged to receive an additional dose of the updated Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty or Moderna/Spikevax Covid-19 vaccines over a year.

Earlier in 2022, three deaths of children under 12 years of age due to Covid-19 were reported. No deaths among children from Covid-19 were reported in 2020 and 2021.
