What did the indian army say?
Earlier, the indian army said in an official statement that Agniveer Amritpal Singh died by suicide while on sentry duty in
Poonch sector on october 11 and there is no right to military funeral in such cases. This statement has come after a big
political controversy over not giving guard of honor to Agniveer Recruitment. It said that every year around 100 to 140
soldiers lose their lives due to suicide or self-inflicted injuries, in such cases military funerals are not allowed.
Such cases do not deserve a military funeral.
Unfortunate incidents of death due to suicide/self-inflicted injury are treated with deep and abiding sympathy and
appropriate respect by the Armed Forces, but such cases are treated as military funerals, the statement said. As per
the existing army order of 1967, the policy on this subject is being consistently followed without any discrimination.
