Without water in the Cauvery basin, agricultural activity is stunted
Out of the 7654 cusecs of water currently released, 5038 cusecs are being released to the river, 2008 cusecs to Visvesvaraya canal, 100 cusecs to RBLL canal, 58 cusecs to LBALL canal and 400 cusecs to Devaraja Arasu canal. 3276 cusec water is flowing into the reservoir.
Despite widespread protests in the district against water being diverted to tamil Nadu, the congress government undauntedly released water from KRS. The government, which held an all-party meeting earlier, has now appealed to the supreme Court. The state government, which escaped contempt of court by diverting 10 TMC feet of water to tamil Nadu, has escaped the Biso donne for the time being. A massive protest was held in the city under the leadership of bjp MPs sumalatha ambareesh and PC Mohan against the congress government that had diverted water to tamil Nadu. Various farmers' organizations expressed outrage against the decision of the congress government. The district Farmers' Welfare Committee also condemned the release of water to tamil Nadu in dire circumstances.
