Without water in the Cauvery basin, agricultural activity is stunted
Earlier on august 9, the water storage in the Krishnarajasagar reservoir dam was 35.175 tmc feet, which fell to 25.035 tmc feet on august 25. If the water level of the reservoir was 113.30 feet then, the current water level in the reservoir is 102.74 feet. A total of 10 TMC feet of water has flowed into tamil Nadu. 5038 cusecs of water into the river, total discharge reduced to 7654 cusecs, water storage from 35.173 tmcft on Aug. 9 to 25.035 tmcft on Aug. 25. The water flowing from the KRS reservoir to tamil Nadu has been stopped since midnight on Thursday. 10 TMC feet of water has been released to tamil Nadu since last 11 days. The daily release of 13,000 cusecs to 15,500 cusecs of water to tamil Nadu has been reduced to 7654 cusecs since friday morning. 5038 cusecs of water is being released into Cauvery river. Till thursday night, 11 thousand cusecs of water was being released into the river daily.
Out of the 7654 cusecs of water currently released, 5038 cusecs are being released to the river, 2008 cusecs to Visvesvaraya canal, 100 cusecs to RBLL canal, 58 cusecs to LBALL canal and 400 cusecs to Devaraja Arasu canal. 3276 cusec water is flowing into the reservoir.
Despite widespread protests in the district against water being diverted to tamil Nadu, the congress government undauntedly released water from KRS. The government, which held an all-party meeting earlier, has now appealed to the supreme Court. The state government, which escaped contempt of court by diverting 10 TMC feet of water to tamil Nadu, has escaped the Biso donne for the time being. A massive protest was held in the city under the leadership of bjp MPs sumalatha ambareesh and PC Mohan against the congress government that had diverted water to tamil Nadu. Various farmers' organizations expressed outrage against the decision of the congress government. The district Farmers' Welfare Committee also condemned the release of water to tamil Nadu in dire circumstances.
