BRICS is a grouping of Brazil, Russia, India, china and South Africa. In this situation, prime minister Modi left for the BRICS Summit to be held under the leadership of south africa from august 22 to 24. Ahead of the summit, prime minister Modi said he is looking forward to holding bilateral meetings with some of the leaders present in johannesburg and interacting with several guest countries invited to participate in the event.


The prime minister has visited south africa on the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. In a statement issued by prime minister Modi, “BRICS is pursuing a strong cooperation agenda in various fields. We value that the BRICS has become a platform for discussion and debate on issues of concern to the global South as a whole, including development needs and reforms of the multilateral system. This summit will provide a useful opportunity for the BRICS countries to identify areas of future cooperation and review institutional development,” he said. From south africa, the prime minister will travel to Athens, greece on august 25 at the invitation of Greek prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. "This is my first visit to this ancient land. I have the honor of being the first indian prime minister to visit greece after 40 years," the prime minister said in his statement.


Prime minister Modi asserted that his visit to greece would open a new chapter in multilateral relations. “The links between our two civilizations stretch back more than two thousand years. In modern times, our relations have been strengthened by the shared values of democracy, the rule of law and pluralism. "Cooperation in various fields like trade and investment, defence, culture and people-to-people contacts brings our two countries closer," the statement said.
