At least 12 people have died due to heavy rains in many parts of North india for the last two days. On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has predicted rain to continue for the next few days. The indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.IMD said that due to Western Disturbance and Monsoon winds, there has been torrential rain in North-West india and the first heavy rain of the season in Delhi. Due to this heavy rain, flood like situation has arisen in many states. At the same time, the period of continuous rain is going on in NCR including the capital delhi since saturday night. delhi recorded 153 mm of rain between 8:30 am on saturday and 8:30 am on Sunday.

Record of 41 years broken in Delhi

An IMD official said that the Safdarjung observatory recorded 153 mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on sunday, which is the highest since 169.9 mm of rain recorded in a day on July 25, 1982. According to the official, the city had recorded 133.4 mm of rainfall on July 10, 2003, 126 mm on July 28, 2009 and 125.7 mm on July 8, 1993. On July 21, 1958, it received the highest rainfall of 266.2 mm.

Leave of government officials canceled

Red alert has been issued due to rain in Delhi. IMD has predicted very heavy and strong rains in the national capital for the next two days. Moderate to heavy rains occurred in delhi city and many parts of its surrounding on sunday morning. Meanwhile, chief minister arvind kejriwal has canceled the sunday leave of all government officials and directed them to remain on the field.
