Three-tier panchayat elections are going to be held in West bengal today amidst large-scale violence and killings. This is being seen as an important litmus test for the 2024 lok sabha elections. Today, about 5.67 crore people will vote for about 928 seats in 22 ZillaParishads, 9730 panchayat Samitis and 63,229 Gram panchayat seats. The counting of votes will take place on July 11. panchayat elections are being conducted across the state amid tight security. Dozens of people have been killed and many injured in the pre-election violence.

About 65,000 central police personnel and 70,000 state police personnel have been deployed to ensure peaceful conduct of the panchayat elections. Despite this, the violence has not stopped. In which it was said that even after the declaration of the results of the panchayat elections on July 11, the central forces will remain deployed in the whole of West bengal for 10 days. The areas where violence took place on a large scale include Bhangar, Murshidabad, Cooch Behar, Basanti, Nandigram and Birbhum.
