Telangana MAUD spending on infrastructure up by 463 percent
In the previous 10 years, telangana has seen an exponential rise in spending from the Municipal Administration and metropolitan Development Department for infrastructure and capital investment throughout the State's metropolitan districts, including Hyderabad.
It's interesting to note that the State government accounted for 91.8% of all infrastructure investment from 2014 to 2023, totaling a stunning Rs. 1,11,360 crore, with the Centre contributing Rs. 9,934 crore (8.2%) of that total.
The minister said that even the most outspoken opponent of the State will be compelled to acknowledge the urban development over the past ten years, noting that the hyderabad municipal corporation-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>greater hyderabad municipal corporation (GHMC) saw the highest absolute growth, increasing by 850 percent between 2014 and 2023. The MA&UD invested Rs. 44,021.99 crore over this time period as opposed to Rs. 4636.38 crore from 2004 to 2014. Through project-based SPVs like SRDP, CRMP, HRDC, and SNDP, the State was able to concentrate only on urban infrastructure in Hyderabad. During this time, he claimed, the civic organization also collected funds through bonds and bank loans based on its own financial sheet.

The growth in other departments included 190 percent in the HMWSSB, 171 percent in TUFIDC (up to Rs.7,803 crore) and more than 1000 percent in Public health department budget (focusing on drinking water) among others.

The minister said that if other departments such as Energy (increase in sub stations and transformers), health (Basti Dawakhanas), R&B, Education, and Woman and Child Welfare were included, another Rs.12,757 crore were spent in urban telangana during 2014-2023. This would take the total infrastructure spending in hyderabad and the State’s urban areas to at least Rs.1,34051.28 crore in the same period. This unprecedented growth reaffirms the commitment of the State government on planned urban growth and development, he added.
