‘Made in Telangana’ innovative products launched by KTR

IT and industries minister KT Rama Rao launched 'Made in Telangana' innovative products by Huwel Life Sciences, EMPE Diagnostics, and Blue Semi on tuesday in a significant boost for the State government's strategic push to establish a progressive medical devices ecosystem here, in addition to signing multiple MoUs to strengthen product testing for the local med-tech sector.

With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for product testing and the release of world-class 'Made in Telangana' devices by our homegrown companies - Huwel Lifesciences, EMPE Diagnostics, and Blue Semi - I'm thrilled to witness yet another milestone in the medical technology sector in Telangana. It gives me immense pride to state that many of these products are first in the world while the rest are first in the nation. "The launch of these cutting-edge products is a testament to the vibrant med-tech ecosystem in the State, and collaboration for testing will further enhance scale-up and growth," the minister said.

Apart from Hemomeasure and FerriQuant, a haemoglobin testing device and a semiquantitative LFA based assay ferritin test, Huwel Lifesciences, a leader in invitro diagnostics and reagents, has developed Point of Care Testing (POCT) devices. Huwel UniAmp is a first-of-its-kind, palm-top molecular device for nucleic acid testing of various infections.

Huwel is the main supplier of locally produced Covid RTPCR kits in india and holds about 20 manufacturing licences for a variety of diagnostic kits and equipment. Dr. Shesheer Kumar, the founder and managing director of Huwel, said that the company was producing POCT devices for in-field confirmation testing of infections as well as haemoglobin testing equipment for widespread use. "We produce goods in telangana for the global market. We are certain that, similar to vaccinations, hyderabad will soon become a centre for medical gadgets as well," he said.

EMPE Diagnostics has created an accurate, straightforward, quick, and affordable diagnostic test kit to detect tuberculosis (TB) and its antibiotic resistance. The company invested Rs. 25 crore in a global production and R&D facility in Genome Valley with the goal of producing two million tb diagnostic kits per month. The first test kit of its kind in the world, which includes controls and MDR-TB Rifampicin and Isoniazid, has been licenced by CDSCO and is prepared to be distributed to tb clinics.

The current capacity of EMPE Diagnostics, according to CEO raghavendra Goud, is 25 million kits, but that number will soon increase to 100 million kits. Our goal, he stated, is to manufacture the kits in telangana and distribute them worldwide. The world's first device, called EYVA, was introduced by Blue Semi, a T-hub-based business. It can measure six important vital signs in only 60 seconds, including non-invasive blood glucose with just a touch. According to sunil Maddikatla, CEO and Founder of Blue Semi, Telangana's nurturing environment was essential to the development and success of ground-breaking health tech inventions like the EYVA device.

at addition to this, the telangana Life Sciences Foundation (TLSF) and six organisations with ISO-certified facilities signed Memorandums of Understanding to make medical device testing and prototyping services available to the tenant businesses at Sultanpur's Medical Devices Park. This is in response to the Medtech CEO Roundtable that was presided over by at the 20th annual BioAsia convention, which took place in hyderabad earlier this year.

With the help of the TLSF, businesses like RCC Laboratories, T-Works, Palamur Biosciences, Vimta Labs, Electronics Corporation of india Ltd. (ECIL), and Vivo Bio Tech Ltd. have expanded their services to include biocompatibility testing, safety evaluation, pre-clinical services, EMI/EMC testing, animal testing, chemical testing, toxicology/risk assessment, environment testing, nuclear testing, and prototyping at discounted rates only for businesses using the technology.
