What is Godhra Kand?
It was the month of february in the year 2002, the date was 27. This was the same unlucky day when the S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express was set on fire in a place called Godhra in Gujarat. Karsevaks were travelling in this coach, who were coming from Ayodhya. 59 people were burnt to death in this fire.
Horrific communal riots after Godhra incident (Gujara Riots)
One day after the Godhra incident, that is, on 28 february, the country witnessed one of the biggest tragedies after independence. The riots engulfed the whole of Gujarat. ahmedabad and its surrounding areas remained in the grip of this tragedy for about 3 months. About 1000 people who were caught in the grip of these communal riots lost their lives.
