Horror On Stage: director Om Katare's unique experiment in hindi theatre, prepared the first horror play, Raat Baaki Hai
Famous theater artist Om Katare, who has a distinct identity in hindi theater due to his easy-going and simple personality, is busy day and night preparing for the 45th annual festival of his theater group Yatri. Om Katare has written, produced, and directed many interesting plays for different times and situations, from children to youth and the elderly. If counted, in these 45 years, Yatri theater Group has produced more than 100 plays, which have had more than 5500 shows. This time Katare is going to do a unique experiment of horror drama in hindi theatre.
Theater artist Om Katare, originally from Madhya Pradesh, founded the Yatri theater Group in january 1979. Since then Om Katare has been continuously staging plays. During this period, many actors from his theater group have become superstars of hindi films and web series. While talking to 'Amar Ujala', kirti kulhari has taken the name of Om Katare many times to make him famous. Gagan Dev Riyar, the hero of the recently released series 'Scam 2003', has also been a disciple of Om Katare.
Producer, director, and actor Om Katare says, 'Yatri theater Group has organized Natyotsav every year since its inception. This year we are completing our 45th year and our entire calendar of anniversary shows is ready. It will be inaugurated on january 23 at prithvi Theater in Juhu. In this entire drama festival, we are going to do about 14 shows of six plays.
Katare has also been organizing color workshops continuously for the last 30 years. Preparations are underway to celebrate this year's annual festival of Katare Ke Yatri theater Group, which has celebrated around two thousand artists, with great pomp across mumbai and Brihanmumbai. During this annual festival, apart from prithvi Theatre, Yatri's plays will also be performed in many other theater houses. According to the information, Yatri theater Group Natya Utsav in mumbai will be inaugurated on 23 january 2024 at 6.30 pm at prithvi Theatre. After that, the play 'Kaalchakra' written by famous Marathi playwright Jaywant Dalvi will be staged on the same day at 8 pm.
After the play 'Kaalchakra', the first horror play 'Raat Baaki Hai' will be staged on the 24th and 25th of january at 8 pm in the prithvi Theater itself. The new age comedy play 'Babuji Dheere Chalna' will be staged on 26th january at 3 pm. It will be at six o'clock and nine o'clock at night. Family drama 'Chandu Ki Chachi' will be staged on january 27 at noon, and 'Perfect Family' will be staged on january 27 at 6 and 8 pm. The play 'Jeene Bhi Do Yaaro' will be staged on january 28 at 5 and 8 pm at prithvi Theater only.
Apart from the staging of these plays, during prithvi House Fringe Shows, 'Draupadi' and 'Madhushala' will be staged on 24th january at 7 pm, 'Family Business' and 'Kunti Karna Samvad' will be staged on 25th january at 7 pm and 'Ek Writer' 'Ki Maut' will be staged on january 27 and 28 at 7 pm. 'Jeene Bhi Do Yaaro' will be staged at Veda Kunba Theatre, Andheri on february 2 at 7.30 pm. 'Babuji Dheere Chalna' will be staged in the same theater on 4th february at 7.30 pm.
The specialty of Om Katare is that he takes full care of the convenience of the audience of his plays and that is why he is taking his Yatri Utsav to lata mangeshkar Hall in the Mira Road area, far away from Andheri. The play 'Jeene Bhi Do Yaaro' will be staged in this theater on Mira Road on february 10 at 7.30 pm. This drama festival will conclude with the play 'Babuji Dheere Chalna' on 11th february at 7.30 pm in the exact opposite direction at NCPA Theatre, Bay Nariman Point.
