Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, Thiruvananthapuram

Peppara wildlife sanctuary is a fascinating tourist spot situated in the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram. It is named after the Peppara dam and the wildlife sanctuary is spread across an area of 75 sq. kms, and is covered with evergreen forests, freshwater swamps, hills and valleys.



Meanwhile the thick forest of Peppara houses a rich variety of animals including elephants, sambar deer and lion tailed macaque. Many endemic bird species like Malabar Grey Hornbill, White-bellied Treepie, and Small Sunbird have also found a home here.


Peppara is truly a haven for the nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. Moreover wildlife species found in the sanctuary are tiger, panther, wild dog, lion tailed macaque, elephant, gaur, sambhar etc. The bird species especially the water birds like darter, little cormorant, pied kingfisher are seen here.
