The king of Thailand has supported the marriage equality bill passed by the Parliament in June. After which Thailand has officially become the first country in Southeast Asia and the third country in Asia to recognize the marriage of gay couples. The royal support was published in the official royal gazette late on tuesday night. This means that this bill will come into force in the next 120 days.

There was a long-standing demand for the right to gay marriage within Thailand. After a lot of effort over the last two decades, this bill was passed inside the parliament in june this year.
