Today is the 143rd birthday of sarojini naidu, known as 'The Nightingale of India'. sarojini naidu was born in the year 1879 in hyderabad, his father Aghornath Chattopadhyay was a scientist.

Sarojini Naidu had studied the poems of english poets at a young age. Sarojini, famous for 'Bharat Nightingale', had her first meeting with the father of the Nation, mahatma gandhi, in london in the year 1914. In this meeting, Sarojini was very impressed with Gandhiji. After this, she worked as an aide of gandhiji in South Africa.

President of Mahila Congress:

Sarojini Naidu considered Gopalkrishna Gokhale as her 'political father'. After this Sarojini took part in the freedom struggle of India. She joined the congress and in the year 1925, she was made the President of the indian Mahila Congress. Later, after the country became independent, she was appointed as the first woman governor of Uttar Pradesh.

Sarojini Naidu was awarded the 'Kaiser-e-Hind' medal by the british government for the work done during the plague epidemic in India. However, after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, she returned this honor in protest.

Died after 2 years of independence - Sarojini Naidu died two years after independence on march 2, 1949, due to cardiac arrest at the government House in Lucknow. Sarojini was working in her office in her last days.
