Dr Rohit Kumar, Head of Pulmonary Medicine, at Safdarjung Hospital, said, “Covid is an RNA virus that changes its form from time to time and new variants emerge. Now a new variant has been developed and it is named JN.1. However, not a single case has been reported in the capital Delhi so far. "We are vigilant and monitoring the coronavirus cases. Patients are also being tested and those who come positive are sent for genetic sequencing so that new variants can be detected," he said.
However, the doctor warned patients not to ignore any symptoms during this period. Also, if you have a sore throat, cough, runny nose, chest pain, or difficulty in breathing, consult a doctor immediately. Special attention should be paid to patients with existing respiratory problems and asthma. "Individuals with serious illnesses should be very careful during this season, as those who die due to Covid often have serious conditions like heart disease and diabetes," he said.
