Corona outbreak in China: Tests on animals!!


China tests not only millions of people but also fish and crabs for Covid.

Around 50 lakh people have been ordered to be tested for Covid after 40 people were diagnosed with corona in the coastal city of Xiamen, China. But not just for experimental people. According to a government report, some types of marine life will also be tested for Covid this time.

The Infectious Disease Control Committee of Jimei Coastal district in Xiamen issued a statement saying that fishermen and their seafood should be tested when they return to the field.

Subsequently, live fish and crabs were tested by medical staff for Covid-19 PCR. A video of the experiment was shared on several social media sites, including TikTok-like TikTok.

As strange as it may seem, this is not the first time that live fish have been tested for Covid. Speaking to the South china Morning Post, an employee from the Xiamen Municipal Marine Development Organization said they are doing this after learning from the severe outbreak in Hainan.

"It is suggested that this spread may have been initially triggered by the exchange of marine material between local fishermen and those across the sea."

Hainan, another coastal province, has seen more than 10,000 deaths from Covid-19 since its birth in August. Officials say the spread is linked to the fishing community.

For a long time, the media has raised concerns that the spread of the corona virus may be linked to marine life. It is noteworthy that a market selling live animals and seafood in the central Chinese city of wuhan was said to be the first outbreak of the Covid infection in the world.

While it is not possible for the coronavirus to live in seafood, many outbreaks in china have been linked to refrigerated products and port workers handling seafood.

A similar outbreak in the capital Beijing in 2020 sparked panic over salmon. State media reported at the time that the Covid-19 virus had been found on cutting boards for imported salmon.

As a result, this type of fish was removed from the stores. Import stopped.

In May, Chinese state media shared images of water elephants being tested for Covid. Also, it was said that it is necessary to test these animals twice a week for Covid.



The reason widely cited by leading media outlets for this is to "ensure the safety of the animals", as well as tourists and visitors to places that they inhabit.
