COVID-19 here to stay forever?? No Eradication??

For around 18 months, people around the globe have been daydreaming about the ultimate end of the pandemic, and for a moment this springtime and summer it felt tantalizingly close. Then the delta variant appeared and began ripping through the unvaccinated, and momentarily we are right back in the thick of it. Pockets of the country are crushing their earlier records. Most of the states have run out of hospital beds. The ends of the tunnel, once again, seems very far away. So when will we exit crisis mode? Are we destined to live through an endless loop of surges?

Can we eradicate COVID-19?

This verse "Can we eradicate COVID-19?" can attract a lot of headlines for its hopeful message but in reality?

Up to this point, the WHO has only reported one human disease formally eradicated: smallpox. It would be more difficult to eradicate COVID-19 than it was to eradicate smallpox, but conclusively easier to get rid of COVID-19 than polio.

The primary challenges in eradicating COVID all over the world is getting enough people immunised and assuring the vaccines keep velocity with the virus as it evolves.

... Delta variant - Impossible herd immunity!

In the spring, when the same question arrived about whether herd immunity was possible, we thought that May would tell us a lot about where we’re heading. Well, august is almost here, and the picture is not great: Only a part of the population is fully vaccinated. On the Other hand, the delta variant is said to be as infectious as chicken Pox.

Considering all of that, “the immense majority of specialists in the public health believe that herd immunity is impossible any longer.

As we hedge a bit, some experts consider we could reach a point where COVID-19 fizzles out as everyone has either been immunized or acquired the virus, showing some level of immunity.

‘Crisis mode’ to ‘a new normal’ depends on vaccination

While most public health experts are fusing around the idea that COVID-19 isn’t going elsewhere, they also think we’ll ultimately be able to get back to near normalcy. Ultimately, let's believe COVID-19 is going to be a lot like flu: It will continue to circulate around the world, and the world will need regular vaccines. For better or worse, common men will come to admit it as a part of daily life.
