‘RESIDENT EVIL’ FANS, THIS IS YOUR WARNING: ZACH CREGGER WANTS YOU TO FEEL THE FEAR

If there’s one thing Zach Cregger wants to destroy with his upcoming Resident Evil movie, it’s the comfortable distance between the audience and the action. He doesn’t simply want viewers to watch a character fight for survival — he wants them to feel as if they’re controlling the character themselves. And that could make the film far more nerve-racking than a conventional horror movie.

  • EVERY BULLET WILL MATTER: Cregger has revealed that audiences will actually know how many bullets are left in the protagonist’s gun. That seemingly tiny detail could turn every confrontation into a countdown to disaster. When ammunition becomes a finite resource, pulling the trigger is no longer just an action beat — it becomes a decision.

  • YOU’LL FEEL EVERY MISS: Cregger specifically wants viewers to care when the protagonist misses a shot. In other words, a wasted bullet won’t simply disappear into the chaos. You’ll know it could come back to haunt him later.

  • HEALTH WILL BECOME PART OF THE HORROR: The audience will also be “keenly aware” of the protagonist’s health. Every injury could therefore carry real weight, making survival feel increasingly desperate rather than guaranteed.

  • AND THERE’S MORE: Cregger has teased another game mechanic that has yet to be revealed. Whatever it is, the filmmaker is clearly building the movie around the kind of resource management, tension, and constant danger that made Resident Evil so addictive.

This isn’t about making a movie that merely looks like a video game. Cregger wants audiences to FEEL like they’re playing one — and if he pulls it off, every bullet, every mistake, and every wound could become a reason to panic.
