The literacy rate in the country has reached around 81 percent and the government aims to move towards 100% literacy rate. Union minister of State for education gave this information in response to a question asked in Parliament.

He said that the literacy rate in india in the age group of 7 years and above is 80.9%. This figure is based on the report of the Periodic Labor Force survey (PLFS) of 2023-24, which has been prepared by the National Statistical office (NSSO).
