China fears for three weeks, but no Covid surge in India...

There hasn't been a noticeable increase in infections in india in the nearly three weeks since health authorities increased their vigilance in response to a significant Covid-19 outbreak in China. After two weeks of a modest increase, fresh cases in india saw a slight reduction in the week that ended on Sunday, but total numbers remained incredibly low.

India recorded 1,268 new cases this week, down from 1,526 the week before. The number of cases has not exceeded 2,000 for the preceding six weeks. According to TOI's Covid database, Karnataka, whose new cases had more than doubled last week, has now recorded a drop.

Compared to the six Covid deaths the week before, there were 12 Covid deaths nationwide. Since the second week of November, the virus has continued to cause less than 50 fatalities every week.

Despite the fact that Chinese authorities swiftly suppress any news that casts doubt on how it is handling the Covid crisis, a number of incidents are being reported by foreign and local media that highlight how serious the epidemic really is.

Though the real picture of Covid in china might not be represented in its official numbers, the number of cases worldwide has now been declining for the past two to three weeks. According to worldometers.info, japan continued to record the newest cases in the past seven days with about 1.2 million, up 14% from the week before. china ranked 11th on the list with about 54,000 cases, up 52% in a week, while south korea had the second-highest number of cases with over 400,000 throughout the week.
