Passengers traveling by indigo airlines on saturday in many cities of the country had to data-face a lot of trouble. Due to staff shortage, 55 percent of IndiGo's domestic flights were delayed as a large number of staff members took medical leave. Sources said that the concerned crew members had gone to join the recruitment drive of air india (AI) after taking leave in the name of the illness. DGCA has sought a response from indigo in this matter.

Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) chief Arun Kumar said, "We are looking into it." industry sources said the second phase of air India's recruitment drive was conducted on saturday and most of the indigo crew members who took medical leave went for it. India's largest airline indigo currently operates about 1,600 flights nationally and internationally every day. indigo and air india did not respond to a request for a statement on the matter.

In comparison, air india, SpiceJet, Vistara, GoFirst, and AirAsia india operated 77.1 percent, 80.4 percent, 86.3 percent, 88 percent, and 92.3 percent of flights on time, respectively, on Saturday.

IndiGo had suspended some pilots

IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Ronjoy Dutta told employees on april 8 through an email that raising wages is a difficult issue, but the airline will continuously review and adjust salaries based on its profitability and competitive environment. On april 4, indigo suspended some pilots who were planning to go on strike to protest the pay cut during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

IndiGo had cut the salary of pilots by 30%

Air india has launched a recruitment drive for new crew members as it plans to buy new aircraft and improve its services. During the peak of the pandemic, indigo had cut the salaries of its pilots by up to 30 percent. On april 1 this year, the airline announced its decision to increase the salaries of pilots by eight percent. It had said that in case of no disruption, another hike of 6.5 percent would be implemented from November. However, a section of the pilots remained dissatisfied and decided to organize a strike.
