Tamil Nadu health minister Ma. Subramanian has stated that the state currently has 8,713 sub-health centres functioning across urban and rural areas, highlighting the government’s strong focus on strengthening primary healthcare services.

Speaking at a public event, the minister said that sub-health centres play a crucial role in delivering essential healthcare services at the grassroots level, particularly for women, children, and elderly citizens. These centres serve as the first point of contact between the public health system and local communities, especially in remote and rural regions.

He noted that the tamil Nadu government has been consistently investing in improving healthcare infrastructure by upgrading facilities, appointing trained healthcare workers, and ensuring the availability of basic medical equipment and medicines in sub-health centres. services such as maternal and child healthcare, immunisation, family welfare programmes, basic treatment for common illnesses, and health awareness campaigns are regularly provided through these centres.

The minister further emphadata-sized that the expansion and strengthening of sub-health centres data-align with the state’s broader objective of providing accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for all. He added that special attention is being given to underserved and hard-to-reach areas to reduce health disparities and improve overall public health indicators.

Ma. Subramanian also highlighted that tamil Nadu continues to be a model state in public health, with its strong primary healthcare network contributing significantly to improved life expectancy, reduced maternal and infant mortality rates, and better disease prevention outcomes.
