Voted Modi for Economic Boom, Got Demonetization, GST & a Broke Generation - Monkey’s Paw Curse Is Real

SIBY JEYYA
Indians are straight-up living in a monkey’s paw horror story. They elected narendra Modi, dreaming of an economic miracle — sure, most of it was just riding the wave left by the previous UPA government, but let’s pretend it was all him. The paw curled its fingers… and delivered demonetisation followed immediately by GST. Two body blows that crippled small businesses and ordinary people overnight.

1. Then came the globalisation dream.
Everyone wanted a more connected, modern India. The paw moved again — suddenly, we had dirt-cheap internet, and every second person became an influencer. It looked like progress for a hot second.

2. But the twist was vicious.
COVID hit right after, and the illusion shattered. The same loyal middle class that cheered the loudest is now gasping for air — literally and figuratively. They can’t afford the internet anymore. Or rent. Or clean water. Or an AC to survive the heat. Or even decent education for their kids.

3. This is the savage irony nobody wants to admit.
Every “wish” granted by this government came back mangled and poisoned. What started as hope for growth turned into a slow-motion squeeze on the very people who form the backbone of the country.

4. The middle class trusted the narrative.
They bought the promise. Now they’re paying the real price while watching the paw keep twisting. No jobs that match the hype, no relief in sight — just higher costs and shrinking dreams. india didn’t get the bright future it voted for. It got the classic monkey’s paw ending: be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it.
