GRAP Stage-IV Revoked

The Commission for air Quality Management (CAQM) has lifted GRAP Stage-IV, which falls under the Severe+ pollution category, across Delhi-NCR with immediate effect.

This decision comes as a significant relief for residents after days of extreme air pollution and strict restrictions.

The move reflects a temporary improvement in air quality, supported by favorable weather conditions.

Improvement in air Quality Index

On 20 January, Delhi’s air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 378, placing it in the “Very Poor” category.

Though still unhealthy, this marks an improvement from the Severe+ levels witnessed earlier.

Increased wind speed and better dispersion of pollutants played a key role in this improvement.

Decision Based on Expert Review

The decision to revoke Stage-IV was taken by the Sub-Committee on GRAP after a detailed review.

Forecasts from the india Meteorological Department (IMD) and IITM were carefully examined.

According to these forecasts, AQI levels are expected to remain in the Very Poor range over the coming days, provided conditions remain stable.

Stages I, II, and III to Continue

Despite the rollback of Stage-IV, GRAP Stages I, II, and III will remain in force across Delhi-NCR.

These stages include restrictions on construction activities, vehicular emissions, dust control, and industrial operations.

Authorities have emphadata-sized that these measures are crucial to prevent a relapse into the Severe+ category.

Strict Enforcement Directed

All concerned agencies have been instructed to intensify enforcement of existing GRAP measures.

Regular inspections, stricter compliance checks, and quick action against violations have been advised.

The focus is on maintaining the current improvement and avoiding any sudden spike in pollution levels.

Appeal to Citizens

Citizens have been urgedto strictly follow the GRAP Citizen Charter.

People are encouraged to reduce vehicle usage, avoid open burning, and follow dust-control norms.

Public cooperation is seen as essential to sustaining cleaner air and preventing further health risks.

Cautious Optimism Ahead

While the lifting of GRAP-IV offers relief, authorities have stressed that the situation remains fragile.

Continuous monitoring and collective responsibility will be key to keeping Delhi’s air quality from deteriorating again.
