India's population growth rate is slowing down - Is COVID the reason?
However, in 2022, the death-to-birth ratio remained high even after the COVID-19 epidemic. In practically every state, with the exception of madhya pradesh and Rajasthan, the death-to-birth ratio has not recovered to 2019 levels, the pre-COVID era.
For instance, Goa's death rate in 2022 was 87% of its birth rate, which is significantly higher than the 70% rate in 2019 (before COVID) and even higher than in 2020.
Shocking Figures Reported In These States
In tamil Nadu, the ratio was higher than the pre-COVID number of 67 percent, reaching 74 percent in 2022 (equivalent to 2020). The percentage in the southern state of kerala is still 74%, which is higher than 56% in 2019.
The state with the lowest fertility rate in india, Sikkim, also reported a 2022 ratio of 61%, which was higher than the pre-COVID-2019 and pandemic 2020 ratios.
After a significant increase in 2021, chandigarh and the andaman and nicobar islands have not been able to reach their previous levels.
The death-to-birth ratio in the andaman and nicobar islands was 69 percent in 2022, higher than the 58 percent rate in 2019.
Lower Death-To-Birth Ratio Reported In These States
States like bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and jharkhand, which have a large proportion of young people, on the other hand, had much lower death-to-birth ratios, below 30 percent.
The percentage for bihar is less than 15 percent. While the growth rate indicated a little decline in 2022, jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh saw significant population increases in 2021.
