Every year billions of rupees come to india from abroad. Most of this money is that which is sent by indian expatriates living abroad to their relatives. RBI's march 2025 Bulletin Report has revealed how much foreign remittance i.e. money sent from abroad has come to india in the country in 2023-24. Apart from this, this report also tells which state has received the most foreign money from abroad.
How much money was sent to india from abroad?
According to the RBI march Bulletin 2025 report, $ 118.7 billion remittance came to india in the year 2023-24. The most money in this has come from America, which is 27.7 percent of the total remittance. Whereas, if we talk about Muslim countries, 38 percent of the total $118.7 billion sent to india from gulf countries United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, oman and bahrain has come. This money will be around 3,896.3 billion in indian rupees.
Which state received the most money?
In the same RBI report, it has been told that in 2023-24, the most money has been sent from abroad to the BJP-ruled state of Maharashtra. 20.5 percent of the total remittance has come to Maharashtra. Whereas, kerala is second in this list. 19.7 percent of the money has come to Kerala. It is followed by tamil Nadu, Telangana, karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. These states have received 10.4, 8.1, 7.7 and 4.4 percent of the total remittance from abroad. The biggest thing is that maharashtra has remained at the top of this list since the year 2020.
Where does the most money come from Muslim countries?
When you talk about the gulf countries, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, oman and bahrain, from where 38 percent of the total remittances come to india, then the United Arab Emirates (UAE) tops the list. NRIs living in the uae send more money to india than migrants living in other gulf countries. According to the RBI report, the UAE's share in the total remittances sent to india in 2020-21 was about 18 percent, which increased to 19.2 percent in 2023-24. In fact, uae is the largest center of indian migrant workers. Apart from this, most of the migrants here work in the construction industry, healthcare, hospitality and tourism sectors. At the same time, indian migrants in uae get slightly more money on average than other gulf countries.
