He was smuggling gold worth Rs 1.3 crore hidden in his underwear and socks, this is how he was caught at IGI Airport.

Customs officials at Delhi's indira gandhi international airport (IGI) arrested a person on thursday (February 27, 2025) for smuggling gold. According to officials, an indian man came to delhi on 24 February 2025 from jeddah via kuwait by flight number KU 383. He was stopped after exiting the green channel of the international Arrivals Hall.


According to the officials, when his belongings were checked, during the investigation, X-ray scanning, personal search, and baggage checking, achemical paste of gold was recovered from him. This person had cleverly hidden the gold. A pouch was wrapped in white tape and hidden in his underwear. Apart from this, gold was also hidden in a pair of socks kept in the bag.


How much gold was recovered

During the investigation, a total of 1585 grams of gold was found. After extracting it, it was converted into an irregular-shaped gold bar. According to customs officials, its government tax value has been estimated at Rs 1.3 crore. During interrogation, the passenger confessed that he had smuggled this gold from Jeddah. Custom officials have seized the gold and arrested the accused. The investigation of the case is ongoing.


A person was also arrested at ahmedabad airport

Earlier last week, Customs Department officials at Sardar Vallabhbhai patel international (SVPI) airport arrested a man coming from jeddah for smuggling about 500 grams of gold. Acting on input received by the Customs Department, officials stopped a passenger coming from jeddah on an indigo flight and conducted a routine check. On checking, officials found a plastic bag full of gold chains in his trouser pocket. The accused had hidden two gold chains weighing 500 grams, which were valued at around Rs 44.75 lakh.
