The Atal Tunnel in himachal pradesh is currently experiencing a severe traffic bottleneck with more than 1,000 vehicles stuck within. The problem has been made worse by the continuous snowfall. To make matters worse, there have been reports of multiple cars skidding because of the snow. Senior officials, including the Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP), are on the scene while efforts are made to free the stranded cars. For your information, numerous districts in himachal pradesh are currently experiencing very poor weather. The situation has gotten increasingly alarming due to the constant rain and snowfall. Snowfall has made cars crawl at slow rates, but it also makes tourists happy. In hilly regions, this kind of circumstance has happened before. Attracted by the snowfall, tourists frequently flock to the mountains in huge numbers, but the resources in these places are insufficient to handle this inflow, which causes issues. For comparison, at 9.02 km, the Atal Tunnel is the world's longest roadway tunnel. All year long, the tunnel links manali with the Lahaul-Spiti Valley. Due to intense snowfall, the valley would be isolated from the rest of the area for roughly six months prior to the tunnel's construction. Nonetheless, the tunnel was constructed between the Pir Panjal mountain range in the himalayas at a height of almost 3,000 meters above sea level and with cutting-edge specifications.

The atal bihari vajpayee government decided to build this strategically significant tunnel beneath the Rohtang Pass. On May 26, 2002, the foundation stone was placed for the access road leading to the tunnel's southern portal. In december 2019, the Modi government honoured former prime minister atal bihari vajpayee by renaming the tunnel after him.
