Defective AC: Panasonic was ordered to pay compensation..!?
'Panasonic should pay Rs 35,000 to the affected customer, along with 9 percent interest, for selling a defective AC and providing poor service,' the consumer court has ordered. A company called 'Gold Point Private Limited' operates in Perambur. Here, on february 5, 2022, I bought a ton of 'AC' for Rs 35,000. That is, the shop staff talked attractively and made me buy a Panasonic 'AC'. It did not work properly after installing it at home. Due to continuous malfunctions, the 'AC' could not be used during the summer. After complaining to the customer service center, official employees of Panasonic came to the house and fixed the fault.
However, it broke again. Since it was a defective 'AC', repairs were made from the beginning. Before selling the product in the market, proper inspection should have been done. The company has sold a defective product and has acted with poor service. Therefore, the company that engaged in unfair business and provided poor service and the shop that sold the product should pay a compensation of one lakh rupees.
Furthermore, the Rs. 35,000 that I paid for the product should be returned with 12 percent interest. The mental anguish caused by the faulty 'AC' should be ordered to be paid, Rs. 1 lakh, and Rs. 10,000 as legal costs. The petition was heard by a bench comprising chennai North Consumer Grievance Redressal Commission Chairman D. Gopinath, members kavitha Kannan and V. Ramamoorthy. The bench, after hearing the arguments of both sides, issued the following order:
The petitioner has not been working properly since he bought the 'AC'. He has complained about frequent repairs during the warranty period of the product. The official repair staff has repaired it. At some point, the defect has become impossible to repair. The explanation given by the company was that when the petitioner was called and told that a new product had arrived in exchange for the defective product, he refused to accept it was not acceptable.
Defective service:
Due to the series of defects, the complainant has lost faith in the company that manufactured the product and the seller at some point. It is clear that there is a defect in the service by providing a defective 'AC'. Therefore, the affected customer should be paid the amount of Rs. 35,000 for the product, along with 9 percent interest. In addition, Panasonic should pay Rs. 10,000 for the service defect; Rs. 5,000 as litigation costs.
Thus it is stated in the order.
