Snowstorms are making America howl..!?
Heavy snowstorms have been blowing in various states of the united states for several weeks. The normal life of people has been affected in many states including Indiana, Kentucky, and Virginia. A powerful winter storm has brought blizzard conditions to parts of the US, prompting the National Weather service to issue winter storm warnings for Kansas, Missouri, and New Jersey.
Wind gusts of up to 72 kph have been reported, with the worst of the weather expected to hit monday and early Tuesday. According to the weather service, some areas may experience their heaviest snowfall in at least a decade. The extreme weather is being driven by the polar vortex, a mass of ultra-cold air that normally spins around the North Pole. When the vortex escapes and plunges southward, it brings intense cold to the US, Europe, and Asia.
Research suggests that the rapid warming of the Arctic is partly to blame for the increasing frequency of the polar vortex extending its icy grip. As the planet continues to warm, extreme weather events like this are expected to become more frequent. Schools and colleges have been declared holidays in various states. Many offices have also been temporarily closed. Transportation is also severely affected. More than a thousand flights have been canceled.
