Around 1400 years ago, this transformation started. In 634 AD, islam made its way into Syria. Arab Muslims overran syria under the leadership of Hazrat Khalid bin Walid and Caliph Hazrat Abu Bakr. syria became a significant Islamic hub with the arrival of Islam. The Umayyad caliphs established Damascus as their capital at the same period. In addition, the Umayyad monarchs constructed several structures, including the Umayyad mosque and Abd al-Malik Palace.
In present-day Iraq, the Abbasid caliphs relocated the capital from Damascus to Baghdad.
Syria came under the control of the Abbasid Caliphs in 750 AD. syria was ruled by the Abbasid caliphs until 1260 when they moved the capital from Damascus to Baghdad.
The majority of Syrians are Muslims, primarily Sunnis, despite the country's religious diversity. Aside from this, syria is home to Shia, Druze, and Christian minorities. However, you might be shocked to learn that syria was once thought to be a Christian stronghold before it became a bastion of Islam. Today, however, the situation in syria has entirely altered.
Sunnis from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, including Arabs, Kurds, Turkmens, and Circassians, make up the majority of Syrian Muslims. The Alawites, Shia groupings, especially Isma'ilis and Twelver Shi'ism, and Druzes are next in line.
Greek Orthodox, Greek Catholics, Armenian Orthodox, Armenian Catholics, Syriac Orthodox, Syriac Catholics, Nestorians, Chaldeans, Maronites, Latin Catholics, and Protestants are among the other Christian minorities. A little Yazidi community also exists.
