Cancelling an online food order leads to food wastage. To prevent this, online food delivery company zomato has launched a new initiative called Food Rescue Mission. Under Zomato's Food Rescue initiative, as soon as a user cancels an online food order, the cancelled order will be offered to nearby customers at a very attractive price through a popup message and the food will be delivered to them within a few minutes without any tampering with the packaging.

Order cancellation becomes a challenge

zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal wrote in a post on social media platform X, "At zomato, we do not encourage order cancellation at all because it leads to food wastage." He said, despite having a strict policy and no-refund policy on cancellation of orders, 4 lakh orders are cancelled by customers due to various reasons. This is a matter of concern for us, the restaurant industry and also for those customers who cancel orders and want to prevent food from getting wasted in any way. In such a situation, today we are launching the Food Rescue initiative.

4 lakh orders are cancelled

According to zomato, every month about 4 lakh orders are cancelled when they are on the way to be delivered to the customers. According to the online food delivery company, this is a serious challenge and the company is working on all kinds of solutions to prevent the wastage of food in such a situation. And in view of this, zomato has started the Food Rescue initiative. Now know how Zomato's Food Rescue campaign will work!

This is how 'Food Rescue' will be done now

Under Food Rescue, customers within a radius of 3 km of the order being delivered by the delivery partner will start getting a popup message of cancelled order on the zomato app. To keep the food fresh, the option to claim this order will be available for a few minutes only. The original customer who had ordered the food online and the people living around him will not be able to claim this order. The payment made by the new customer will be shared with the restaurant partner and the original customers if they have made the payment online. zomato will not keep anything except government taxes. Ice cream, shakes or other perishable items will not be included in Food Rescue. The delivery partner will be paid for the entire trip. zomato said, the company is committed to preventing wastage of food.
