The impact Shah Rukh Khan has had on the hindi cinema industry is unparalleled. He went from being a newcomer to the industry to being one of Bollywood's most renowned and prosperous actor-producers. Hearts have been won over by his recent, intense releases, such as Jawan, Dunki, and Pathaan. Even his appearances in movies like Brahmastra: Part One-Shiva and tiger 3 have their own fan bases.

Shah Rukh Khan became the king of romance in bollywood when he played raj in DDLJ, opposite kajol (as Simran).

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge: A YRF Masterpiece

The production rights to the popular family drama Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge from the 1990s are proudly owned by Yash raj Films. aditya chopra struck gold with this picture, his first directing effort, since it achieved unthinkable success and even helped indian cinema become more widely known worldwide.

It made Rs 89 crore in india and Rs 13.5 crore abroad on a budget of Rs 4 crore. Due to its more than 25-year run at Mumbai's maratha Mandir, DDLJ is also the longest-running hindi film in indian cinema history. The movie took home ten Filmfare awards, with SRK winning Best Actor. But, as raj of DDLJ, there was a chance that someone else might win the prize.

Shah Rukh Khan Was Not The First Choice For DDLJ

The film DDLJ, which serves as a manual for indian romance in the 1990s, wasn't meant to be one. With an American male (played by tom Cruise) falling in love with an indian girl named kajol, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was intended by director aditya chopra to be a mashup of bollywood and Hollywood. However, yash Chopra, the film's producer and his father, suggested that he alter the plot and make the main character an nri instead of a foreigner.

Simran (Kajol) may have ended up with a different raj even after that. He wasn't offered the film that made SRK famous in the first place. Only after the three other well-known Khans in Bollywood—Aamir Khan, salman khan, and Saif ali Khan—rejected the offer was he given a chance to play the lead. It's also fascinating to learn about the film's musical composition in addition to the choice of actors.
Interesting Facts About DDLJ’s music Composition

One of their most successful ventures, DDLJ's soundtrack was created by Jatin and Lalit in just four and a half months. Being given the opportunity to collaborate on the film alongside lata mangeshkar made them feel honored.

2. "Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna," a song that has become an essential component of the indian wedding soundtrack, was initially meant for a different film. However, aditya chopra included it in DDLJ because he liked its feel.

3. The love hymn "Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam" reportedly encountered issues while being filmed. Plot owners were outraged when the famous "mustard field" scene was filmed in Haryana. SRK, however, handled the matter expertly.

29 Years of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

The famous Raj-Simran love tale just celebrated its 29th birthday on october 29, 2024, which also happened to be Karva Chauth day. In honor of the movie's anniversary, kajol posted a touching image of the poster on instagram with the remark, "29 years to the OG of Karva Chauth…maybe go to maratha mandir and see the film." In the movie, kajol celebrates Karva Chauth, and in the song Ghar Aaja Pardesi, she pretends to pass out from hunger.
