BCCI's recent IPL rule change will affect chennai Super Kings and mumbai Indians. Prior to the 2025 IPL mega auction, rules on how many players each team can retain and how much they can pay were introduced earlier. An important change has been made to it. Accordingly, a team can retain up to five international players. The salary paid to them will be deducted from the overall salary purse of the team. bcci has fixed a salary expenditure of 120 crores for each team in the 2025 IPL auction. A team can pay as many crores as they want for a retained player. But the bcci fixed minimum salary or the salary paid to the retained player, whichever is higher, will be deducted from the salary expenditure of the team.
 For example, if CSK keeps ravindra jadeja as their opener, let's say they pay him 15 crores. However, 18 crores will be deducted from the total salary expenditure of the CSK team. This is because a minimum amount of 18 crores per player retained by a team will be deducted from their salary cap. Any amount which is less as per earlier rules shall be deducted from the cost amount only. But, this time the rule has been changed. Therefore, if a team pays a higher salary to a player only that amount will be deducted from the salary expense amount. Therefore, the total salary cost of a team is 120 crores required minus the salary paid to the retained players. mumbai Indians, chennai Super Kings, and kolkata Knight Riders will all be affected by this complex rule. Because these three teams are forced to retain many key players. At the same time, there is no need to retain more players in teams like punjab Kings and delhi Capitals. So, this is a positive result for some teams and a negative result for major teams like CSK and mumbai Indians.
