Delhi's next
chief minister will be Atishi. The choice was made during a legislative
party meeting that
arvind kejriwal presided over earlier today at his
home in Delhi. During the discussion, the
chief minister suggested Atishi's name. Later today,
kejriwal is scheduled to meet with Lieutenant
governor VK Saxena at 430 p.m. and is anticipated to submit his resignation.
Arvind
kejriwal was freed from
tihar jail on
september 13, having been detained there for his suspected participation in the
delhi liquor policy case. On Sunday, almost two days after his release,
kejriwal announced he would step down as
chief minister in 48 hours.
In addition, he promised to hold early
elections in
delhi and to hold off on taking the chief ministership until he had a "certificate of honesty" from the public.
The AAP convened several meetings on
monday as
kejriwal met one-on-one at his official
house to get input on his successor from members of the party's top decision-making body, the political affairs committee.
