cm Mamata Banerjee Accuses bjp of Conspiracy; bjp Calls for Her Resignation
RG Kar doctor Rape-Murder Case: The West bengal government, led by chief minister Mamata Banerjee, is embroiled in a heated dispute with the opposition bjp over the recent rape-murder case involving a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical college and Hospital on august 9. Amid ongoing protests in kolkata, Banerjee has accused the BJP-led central government and certain leftist parties of conspiring against her administration in response to the public outcry over the incident.
At an administrative review meeting held at the state secretariat, Nabanna, Banerjee denied accusations that she had offered financial compensation to the family of the deceased doctor. She emphadata-sized that such reports are false and slanderous, stating she had instead offered support for any memorial activities the family wished to undertake. She urged the public to focus on the upcoming durga puja festivities.
"This protest following the RG Kar incident is clearly a conspiracy orchestrated by the Centre, with some left parties also involved. There are individuals exploiting the unrest in neighboring countries, forgetting that india and bangladesh are distinct nations," Banerjee asserted.
Banerjee, who also oversees the home Department, revealed that kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal had offered his resignation due to the protests, but she declined, citing the need for someone who comprehends law and order, especially with durga puja imminent. She also urged junior doctors to return to work.
In response, the bjp has demanded Banerjee’s resignation. bjp leader Gaurav Bhatia accused the trinamool congress chief of siding with the perpetrators rather than the victim’s family. He criticized Banerjee for allegedly failing to act promptly, citing a supreme court query about a 14-hour delay in filing the FIR. Bhatia called for Banerjee’s resignation to ensure a fair investigation, suggesting that if evidence reveals her negligence or involvement in evidence tampering, a polygraph test and possible arrest may be necessary to deliver justice.
The body of the female doctor, a postgraduate trainee, was found at RG Kar Medical college and Hospital on august 9. Her alleged rape and murder have sparked nationwide protests.
