Central school Control Room to Boost Student Safety Amid Recent Assault Incident"

The Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) in Maharashtra's thane district has established a new ‘Central school Control Room’ to enhance student safety by overseeing CCTV footage across civic schools, according to officials.
This initiative follows an incident last month where two four-year-old girls were allegedly assaulted by a male attendant in a badlapur school washroom. On september 5, maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the MBMC’s ‘Central school Control Room’ via video conference.
Located at the Bharat Ratna lata mangeshkar Auditorium in Mira Bhayander, the facility is set up to monitor CCTV feeds from municipal schools to improve student safety, as stated in a civic release.
Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Katkar noted that the control room, which can oversee nearly 1,000 CCTV cameras, is outfitted with advanced technology and a UPS generator backup. It will manage footage from 200 cameras installed in 36 municipal schools serving about 10,000 students. The control room aims to proactively address security concerns and ensure a safe learning environment for students, parents, and school staff.
Initially, the focus is on municipal schools, with plans to extend the initiative to private institutions in the future, according to the release.
In his speech, cm Shinde emphadata-sized the importance of providing a secure environment for students and the role of real-time CCTV surveillance in preventing misconduct. He encouraged other municipal corporations to adopt the MBMC’s model to improve educational safety standards across Maharashtra.
The chief minister also underscored the state’s dedication to student safety through stricter regulations and the ’Shakti’ law, which aims to strengthen protections against crimes targeting women and children. He advised schools to conduct thorough staff background checks and install complaint boxes to facilitate grievance reporting.
