No NRC, No Aadhaar - Assam CM hints at strict steps to identify illegal immigrants
Sarma expressed worries over the issuing of Aadhaar cards by saying, "More individuals have received Aadhaar cards than live in the Dhubri district. Some people under suspicion were probably given Aadhaar cards. Thus, in the next ten days, the assam government will send out a notification informing people that under the new procedure, they will not be able to obtain an aadhar card if they do not file for NRC. Areas with tea gardens will not be covered by this notice. Adults in other areas will have to go through a more stringent procedure as of october 1.
"The detection process of foreigners was almost halted after the NRC update," stated Chief Medical Officer Sarma. "We have either arrested or pushed back 20-30 Bangladeshi nationals in recent months," he continued. We have issued directives today to further up the search for undocumented immigrants in Assam. To make this procedure stronger, we have released comprehensive recommendations.
