US Media Insults Hindus Again
The American press sets the global example for media ethics, but it appears that its double standards when it comes to sensitization reflect a totally different picture. A recent story published in the US weekly Newsweek magazine has sparked uproar on the internet due to its derogatory portrayal of a Hindu god. An ongoing protest against the recently erected Hanuman monument in texas by conservative Christian organizations has made headlines. The magazine's report in this issue referred to Hanuman's monument as a "Huge Half-Monkey Half-Human Statue."
The reporting is blatantly insensitive in addition to being stupid. It is impossible to dismiss the texas statue as sloppy journalism since it is one of the largest sculptures in the country. A user at X inquired as to how the Americans would have responded if the Jesus monument had been disparaged in that way.
This is the same media that interprets nearly everything in the present political landscape as anti-Christian or anti-Semitic. But when it comes to other religions, it looks like they are exempt from the same regulations. It is unreasonable to expect any better from the US press as they have long since lost any credibility.
