Shikhar Dhawan Retires from All Forms of Cricket
On Saturday, august 24, former indian cricketer shikhar dhawan declared his retirement from both local and international cricket. Prior to Shubman Gill taking his spot, dhawan had his final appearance for india in the ODI series against bangladesh in december 2022. On his social media accounts, the 38-year-old posted a lengthy video greeting to his followers, expressing gratitude for their love and support over the course of his career.
The cricketer from delhi made his debut for his country against australia in an ODI held at Visakhapatnam, however his career didn't start off very well as he was out for a two-ball duck. But following some early setbacks, dhawan returned to the indian squad in 2013 and, with some outstanding performances, cemented his spot in all three forms.
"Playing for india was my one and only objective, which I accomplished with the help of many people. First and foremost, my family; I learned cricket from my childhood coach tarak Sinha and my childhood mentor madan Sharma. After that, my whole squad, with whom I spent years playing, gained notoriety, affection, and support from everybody. It's been suggested that turning the pages is necessary to advance the plot. Therefore, I'm also declaring my retirement from both local and international cricket," dhawan stated in the video.
And now that my cricket career is coming to an end, I can rest well knowing that I contributed much to my nation. I really appreciate all of my fans' love and support, as well as the bcci (Board of Control for cricket in India) and DDCA (Delhi & district cricket Association) for providing me with this chance. I simply tell myself to never be depressed about not being able to play for your nation again and to always be grateful that you did. And playing it was my greatest accomplishment to yet," he continued.
