South Africa beat afghanistan by 9 wickets to reach the final. This brought an end to South Africa's 32 years of not being able to play in any world cup finals. In 1991, the South African team recovered from the ban and started playing cricket. The following year, south africa reached the semi-finals of the 1992 ODI World Cup.
 It lost to England. south africa then tied the semi-final against australia in 1999. However, australia qualified for the finals as they topped the Super Six round. So, south africa was disappointed. After this, south africa advanced to the semi-finals in a total of five ODI world cup series in 2007, 2015, and 2023.
However, it never made it to the finals. Similarly, it advanced to the semi-finals of the t20 world cup in 2009 and 2014. south africa lost to pakistan in 2009 and india in 2014. A total of seven times the world cup reached the semi-finals and never reached the final. The team has been with this pain for the last 32 years. Because of this, fans used to taunt the team as "Sockers". south africa bowled out afghanistan for 56 runs in the 2024 t20 World Cup. south africa then reached the target in 8.5 overs and won by 9 wickets. With this, the team has advanced to the finals of the world cup for the first time.
