In West bengal, Kanchenjunga Express collided with a goods train near New Jalpaiguri station on monday (June 17, 2024) morning. Regarding this, Railway minister ashwini Vaishnav said that the rescue operation is going on. Ashwini Vaishnav posted on social media platform X and wrote, "An unfortunate accident has happened in the NFR zone. Rescue operation is going on. Railways, NDRF and SDRF are working. The injured are being taken to the hospital. Senior officials have reached the spot."


What did mamata banerjee say?

Chief minister mamata banerjee wrote in a post on social media platform X, "I am shocked to know about a tragic train accident in Phansidewa area of darjeeling district just now. Detailed information is awaited, itis said that Kanchenjunga Express has been hit by a freight train.'' He further wrote, ''District Magistrate, Senior Superintendent of Police, doctors, ambulances and disaster teams have been sent to the spot for rescue, relief and medical assistance. Action has been started on a war footing.''


What did the railway say?

Kanchenjunga Express going to Sealdah in West bengal collided with a freight train near New Jalpaiguri. A senior official of North Frontier Railway (NFR) gave this information. Divisional Railway Manager of North Frontier Railway Katihar Division said that there are reports of some people being injured in this accident which took place around 9 am.

Rail traffic affected

Due to the accident, rail traffic on the route connecting West bengal to the Northeast has been affected. Rescue work is going on. The official said that 13174 Kanchenjunga Express coming from Agartala collided with a freight train near Rangapani near New Jalpaiguri station.
