Telangana Hyderabad - Tampering with Manhole Lids can land you in Jail

To improve public safety, the hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has fitted safety grills on more than 25,000 manholes around the city. The HMWS&SB threatened to take severe measures against anyone tampering with these grills and lids in a news release on Tuesday.
 
Without permission, opening or removing a manhole's cover is illegal according to Section 74 of the HMWSSB Act, 1989. Serious consequences, including fines and maybe even jail time, await violators, the statement stressed.

The Water Board has started an awareness campaign on handling sewage during the monsoon season to further educate the people. The campaign provides a list of dos and don'ts for people and is directed towards resident welfare associations and social media platforms.
 
In regions that are flooded, vehicles from the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Safety Protocol Team (SPT) will also be stationed. To properly handle waterlogging difficulties, these trucks are outfitted with safety gear, dewatering motors, and airtech equipment.
 
The preemptive steps taken by the HMWS&SB demonstrate their dedication to guaranteeing public safety and effective sewage management during the rainy season. Water Board has launched an awareness campaign on managing sewage during the monsoon season.
