congress MP-elect rahul gandhi has called for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into what he describes as the "biggest-ever stock market scam," implicating caretaker prime minister Narendra Modi, home minister amit shah, and Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Gandhi's allegations center on statements made by these officials, advising the public to invest in the stock market just before the announcement of the lok sabha 2024 results.

During a press conference in New delhi on june 6, gandhi accused Modi and Shah of encouraging retail investors to buy stocks in a coordinated effort, which he claims led to significant financial losses for many. He highlighted that their advice was broadcast on channels owned by the adani Group, a conglomerate currently under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Board of india (SEBI).

gandhi questioned the motivations behind these investment tips and the potential conflicts of interest involving bjp, media channels, and foreign investors. He demanded transparency and accountability through a JPC probe to uncover the connections and responsibilities of those involved in this alleged scam.

The demand for a JPC probe underscores the need for a thorough investigation to address these serious allegations and restore public confidence in the integrity of financial markets and governmental advice.

Union minister Piyush Goyal responded to rahul Gandhi's allegations by highlighting the significant growth in India's market capitalization under the Modi government. Goyal noted that market capitalization had surged from Rs 67 crore a decade ago to Rs 415 lakh crore at present, indicating robust economic growth and investor confidence.

Goyal also questioned Gandhi's focus, suggesting that instead of raising concerns about the stock market, gandhi should concentrate on fulfilling the promises he made during the election campaigns. Goyal pointed out that in several states, such as Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana, women have been seen demanding the fulfillment of Gandhi's promises, including the commitment to give Rs 1 lakh to every woman.

The minister's remarks imply that Gandhi's allegations may be an attempt to divert attention from the unfulfilled electoral promises of the congress party. Goyal urged gandhi to prioritize delivering on these promises to the electorate instead of, in his view, misleading investors and the public with his accusations against the government.

This exchange highlights the political contention between the bjp and congress, with each side aiming to scrutinize the other's actions and commitments.
