TDP Calculations Going the Wrong Way?

SIBY JEYYA
With only nine days till the andhra pradesh state assembly elections, tensions are rising between the two largest political parties, the ysr congress party and the telugu Desam party, over the results. According to reports, the tdp research tank has been heavily involved in analyzing constituency-specific polling patterns over the past several days.

While party officials are putting on a brave front and expressing confidence in their triumph, they are concerned that everything went according to plan. The tdp is said to have encountered severe difficulties in areas where its renegade candidates ran, owing to a split in pro-TDP support. These rebels are not ordinary leaders, but they wield tremendous power in their own areas.

Meesala Gita, a former mla from vizianagaram district, ran as a dissident candidate after being refused a ticket. Aditi Gajapathi Raju, the daughter of former Central minister and prominent politician Pusapati ashok Gajapati Raju, ran for office with the TDP.

Gita's contest has been a gift in disguise for the YSRCP in two respects. She is thought to have taken a few thousand votes from the tdp and Jana Sena after receiving the 'glass' emblem. According to reports, a few hundred individuals voted for the 'glass' sign when it appeared on the ballot.

Second, the local YSRCP candidate, Kolagatla Veerabhadra Swamy, is more powerful and approachable to the public than the tdp candidate. Even if he is up against anti-incumbency in the constituency, he may have benefitted since Gita hampered the TDP's chances.

Similarly, strong rebels like as Siveri Abraham in Araku, Paramata shyam Sunder in Amalapuram, M Suryachandra Rao in Polavaram, v v Sivarama Raju in Undi, and J Rajasekhar in Satyavedu are claimed to have thrown off the TDP's calculations in these constituencies, sources added.
