Harvard University protesters raise Palestinian flag - 900 Arrested

As anti-Israel protests over the Gaza war continue to envelop American institutions, demonstrators at Harvard university hoisted the Palestinian flag atop the john Harvard monument in Harvard Yard, which is designated for the American flag. Since the mass arrests at Columbia university in New York on april 18, there have been about 900 arrests made nationally. The incident that occurred on saturday at Harvard university occurred because pro-Palestine demonstrators have not stopped their continuous agitation on the campus of the Ivy League university.
 

A representative for Harvard described the event as "a violation of university policy" and stated that "individuals involved will be subject to disciplinary action". Approximately 275 persons were taken into custody at many universities on saturday alone, including Arizona State university, Indiana university in Bloomington, and Washington university in St. Louis.
 

Latest Developments


• According to the student publication Harvard Crimson, three Palestinian flags were flown over the campus on saturday night. Protesters yelled "Shame!" and chanted "Free, free Palestine" and "From the river to the sea, palestine will be free" as Harvard Yard Operations employees took down the flags.
• On Sunday, pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian protestors clashed at the university of California, Los Angeles. Demonstrators reportedly tore down a barrier the school had erected to keep the two groups apart, according to the Reuters news agency.

• According to CNN, protests at George Washington University's campus in Washington, DC, continued on Sunday. students set up hundreds of tents in a park and on a nearby street. Protesters yelled "Free Palestine" as they waved Palestinian flags and others wore traditional keffiyehs.
• According to CNN, Palestinian students organised a show of solidarity in a camp for refugees in southern Gaza called Rafah to show their appreciation for the support they have received on US college campuses. "Students of Columbia university, continue to stand by us" was written on banners that the students were holding.
