Badminton icon saina nehwal has vehemently criticized the recent remarks made by 92-year-old congress MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa from Karnataka, stirring controversy ahead of the lok sabha elections. Shivashankarappa's derogatory comments targeted bjp candidate gayatri Siddheshwar, suggesting that women should confine themselves to the kitchen, sparking outrage among many, including Nehwal.

Taking to the social media platform 'X', Nehwal expressed her strong condemnation of such anti-women remarks and emphadata-sized the need for individuals harbouring such attitudes towards women to change their mindset. She underscored her disappointment in the congress party, particularly in light of its claims of supporting women empowerment, indirectly referencing congress General Secretary priyanka gandhi Vadra.

Nehwal also highlighted her achievements in sports, questioning why the congress party did not offer her options when she was bringing glory to the nation. She emphadata-sized the aspirations of girls and women to excel in various fields and criticized demeaning remarks that undermine their potential.


Furthermore, Nehwal lauded prime minister Narendra Modi's leadership in passing the Women's Reservation Bill, contrasting it with the disrespectful treatment of women by individuals like Shivashankarappa. The stark contrast between efforts to empower women and acts of misogyny within the political sphere was highlighted by Nehwal, calling for a shift towards greater respect and recognition of women's contributions.


The remarks made by Shivashankarappa ignited a firestorm of controversy, with accusations levelled against congress for demeaning women. bjp responded by filing a complaint against Shivashankarappa with the election Commission, intensifying the political heat surrounding the issue.
