Police on saturday apprehended a student from IIT guwahati on suspicion of swearing allegiance to the Islamic State. The fourth-year student vanished from the IIT-Guwahati campus after claiming to have joined the terror group in emails and on social media. Subsequently, he was located in the Kamrup district of assam at Hajo.

The student was apprehended four days after Anurag Singh, also known as Rehan, and isis India chief Haris Farooqi, also known as Harish Ajmal Farukhi, were detained in the Dhubri district after crossing over from Bangladesh, according to news agency PTI.

Director-General of police GP Singh posted on X, "Reference IIT guwahati student pleading allegiance to isis - the said student has been detained while travelling and further lawful follow up would take place."

A senior police officer stated, "We went to verify the authenticity of the contents after receiving an email and started an investigation."

He continued by saying that the kid who submitted the email claimed to be headed to join ISIS. Authorities at IIT-Guwahati were then promptly notified that the aforementioned student had gone "missing" around midday and that his cell phone had been turned off.

He was found after a search was launched, and with the assistance of the villagers, he was apprehended in the evening from the Hajo region, some 30 kilometers from guwahati, the police officer said.
Following preliminary interrogation, he was taken to the STF office. We are confirming the email's motivation," he continued.
The Special Task Force (STF) of assam reported that a black flag "possibly similar to that of ISIS" and an Islamic manuscript were discovered in the hostel room of the student who was from Okhla in Delhi.
"It's too early to say anything; we are sifting over the materials that were taken. We are looking into who sent the email and why. The student has provided some information, but at this time we are unable to provide much more," a senior police officer stated.
